We haven't had the opportunity to recommend any blogs to our follower's yet. But this one caught our attention based on the story "Everything I learned about life, I learned from coffee cake."
My wife and I are huge coffee cake fans. It is really how we economize...our philosophy is that "Any cake served with coffee is COFFEE CAKE...and COFFEE CAKE is a morning food!" Have you ever had chocolate cake with coffee at 8am? What a great way to start the day!
So, give Mom'stheword a look. She is a great, diverse blogger with a lot of good information
Wow, what a lovely surprise! I was looking through the posts of blogs I follow and was so surprised to see that you did a post about my blog. Thank you, you are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI think it is so awesome that you have paid off over $30,000 in just one year. You guys are awesome.
Do you have any special recipes that you will be posting? What type of foods do you eat?
Have you tried tvp or tofu? I have never tried them but we did try lentils and brown rice and my hubby and kids love it and don't even notice the absence of the meat.
So far I've baked it and also made tacos out of it but am wanting to find some more recipes.
I would love to read about how you manage your grocery budget, if you wouldn't think it's prying to much. Just curious and looking for ideas!
Thank you again!
Nan
Hi Nan,
ReplyDeleteThank-you for your comment. I am still learning about the grocery budget and the best ways to use that money. But, I will tell you what I have been doing, and maybe you will have more tips for me!
First, we have $310 for groceries per pay period. Sometimes this means 14 days, sometimes 17 (those are tough)! We live in a small town, so some of the stores that are cheaper are farther away. I don't do multiple stores, it is just too much time in my opinion. I look at the ads and decide which store has more of what I am buying on sale. I have been shopping for an entire pay period and going back to the store usually only for milk and bread.
I have a couple of cook books I am using, one of them is, "Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker". Being vegetarian, We love beans! Which is good, because they are cheap. For the first time, I have bought bags of pinto, lentils, and black beans. Much cheaper than buying the can. I no longer buy juice, juice boxes, or cookies, oh and soda, who knew it would be so easy to kick the habit. Instead, I have been doing a lot more baking, and drinking a lot more water.
My husband turned me on to another blog, I think it was the grocery store challenge. She does her shopping on $60 a week. Amazing! Anyway, she uses the Recipe Zaar for great recipes. I am using a couple of those this week.
I will post some tried and true recipes soon!
